I miss each and every one of you, and I hope that you and your families are staying safe and healthy. I'll keep this page updated with suggested work to complete during our extended COVID-19 quarantine. You and your parents are welcome to email me at [email protected] with any questions or concerns.
Even though it can be hard to work independently (especially on math), the effort you put into learning during this time WILL pay off as you move forward in school. You can do it!
Much love, Ms. Gill
Week 1: March 23-29
Goal: Review equations - this is THE most important skill to begin mastering in 8th grade math.
Assignment Complete the following 8th grade math modules with a mastery score of at least 80 (Honors = mastery score of 90).
1. W7-W12 2. For extra challenge, complete W14
If you've already completed the above or would like additional practice: ... Complete IXL modules R1-R5 (Pythagorean theorem review)
Instructions DO NOT try to solve these equations in your head! Write out each equation on a separate sheet of paper, and solve it step by step like we've been doing in class. This will help you develop good math habits.
The answers on the IXL modules may or may not be a whole number. Use a calculator if you'd like. Below are examples.
Remember: 1. The goal is to get the variable by itself on one side of the equation with a number on the other side. 2. To COMBINE LIKE TERMS on the same side of the equation, "do the math" with the coefficients (the number in front of the variable). 3. To MOVE a number or variable to the opposite side of the equation, use the INVERSE/OPPOSITE operation (addition is the opposite of subtraction, and multiplication is the opposite of division).
